Crystallite
Crystallite – a vital ingredient for the glass industry.
Crystallite is a glassy calcium-alumino-silicate used in all types of soda lime silica glass production.
Its unique melting and refining properties enable glassmakers to
- Reduce overall energy consumption per tonne of glass
- Enhanced quality of the final product.
- Reduce CO2 and NOx emissions
- Higher furnace pull
- Prolonged furnace lifespan by minimizing refractory erosion and reducing furnace temperatures.
Crystallite is a granular material that is 99% glassy in nature. It is an eco friendly alumina source but it is a valuable source of all the major glass making oxides. The grain size distribution ensures it is compatible with other glass making raw materials.
Table 1 typical Crystallite chemical composition
Chemical Composition | % |
CaO | 38 – 44 |
SiO2 | 36 – 40 |
Al2O3 | 6 – 14 |
MgO | 7 – 10 |
Total S | 0.7 – 0.9 |
Fe2O3 | 0.15 – 0.3 |
Use & Working of Crystallite
How Crystallite is used?
Crystallite is used in all types of soda-lime-silica glass production. The level of Crystallite usage depends on factors such as glass colour, glass composition and local raw materials.
How Crystallite works?
The two key characteristics of Crystallite that contribute to the range of benefits that it offers are its glassy nature and its redox value.
